It’s a pretty different world at the moment, as you all know.
Many artists have lost countless rehearsals and performance opportunities. I’ve also been dealing with the impacts of the pandemic on my creative and social life.
While staying at home, I wrote a piece called “DO-KARAKA DON”, the ultimate taiko exercise which can be played in your living room by saying the sounds of the taiko and moving your body around. As long as you move with energy, you don’t need a physical drum.
After the choreography of the taiko movement, I did the audio recording myself. Thanks to Heidi Chan who plays the fue (bamboo flute) and other friends who add some vocals. Now I can move around listening to real taiko sounds in my living room!
“DO-KARAKA…DON!” (where is DON coming from?)
